From the city of Jingdezhen in Jiangxi Province, China, which is known as 'the porcelain capital of the world,' boasting a history of 1,700 years of ceramic making. Jingdezhen was the only place where Chinese imperial porcelain was made.

This porcelain became known internationally for being "as thin as paper, as white as jade, as bright as a mirror, and as sound as a bell". Today, Jingdezhen is a chaotic yet charming town, home to a myriad of small scale pottery workshops - often family-run enterprises - employing highly skilled artisans.

While the old wood-burning kilns have been replaced by gas and electric kilns, the amazing skills of the potters have remained unchanged. These skills are apparent in each and every step of the production, from the making of the green ware – wheel thrown, moulded or slip cast – to the application of decorations – glazing, painting, enamelling.
